  1. Q1Road signs

What does an eight-sided octagonal traffic sign always indicate on Utah roads?

    1. AA directional advisory to merge safely
    2. BA mandatory complete stop before entering an intersection or crosswalk
    3. CA regulatory requirement to yield right-of-way to cross traffic
    4. DA warning that a pedestrian school crossing is ahead
    Show answer

    B. A mandatory complete stop before entering an intersection or crosswalk An octagonal (eight-sided) sign always indicates a mandatory complete stop. Motorists approaching a stop sign must bring their vehicle to a complete stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection boundary, and yield right-of-way to pedestrians and oncoming traffic before proceeding safely. The handbook says to stop smoothly behind the stop line, crosswalk or stop sign, whichever comes first, without skidding.

  2. Q2Road signs

What does a downward-pointing triangular traffic sign require drivers to do in Utah?

    1. ABring the vehicle to a mandatory full stop at all times before proceeding further
    2. BSpeed up to merge smoothly with approaching high-speed expressway traffic lanes
    3. CYield the right-of-way to cross traffic, merging vehicles, and pedestrians
    4. DThe roadway ahead is strictly restricted to authorized commercial vehicles only
    Show answer

    C. Yield the right-of-way to cross traffic, merging vehicles, and pedestrians A downward-pointing triangular sign is a yield sign. When approaching a yield sign, drivers must slow down to a reasonable speed, look for oncoming cross traffic and pedestrians, and stop if necessary to allow other road users to proceed safely before continuing. Utah's handbook explains that right-of-way rules tell you and other drivers what to do, so a yield sign tells you who goes first.

  3. Q3Intersections and turns

When two vehicles arrive at an uncontrolled intersection in Utah at the same time, who has the right-of-way?

    1. AThe larger or heavier commercial vehicle always takes right-of-way
    2. BThe driver on the left must yield to the vehicle on their right
    3. CThe driver on the right must yield to the vehicle on the left
    4. DWhichever vehicle is traveling straight must yield to the turning car
    Show answer

    B. The driver on the left must yield to the vehicle on their right At an uncontrolled intersection where there are no traffic signs or signals, the driver on the left must yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on their right when both vehicles reach the intersection at approximately the same time. The handbook also tells you to yield to a driver who is at the intersection before you.

Utah Driver License FAQ

The official Utah Driver License Division knowledge examination consists of 50 closed-book multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 40 questions correctly to pass, which equals an 80 percent passing score. The test is untimed, but typically takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Under Utah law, you must be at least 15 years old to apply for a learner permit. Applicants under age 18 must have parental or legal guardian consent and must hold the permit for at least six months before applying for a driver license.

Under official Utah DLD regulations (https://dld.utah.gov/learner-permit/), the initial $19.00 learner permit application fee covers up to three attempts to pass the written test within 12 months. Up to two written tests may be taken in a single day, subject to branch office scheduling capacity. Retest appointments are required.

Yes. Open the exam simulator and sit a timed mock test of 20 questions built from the free questions, once, with no signup. Unlocking the exam adds full-length runs of 50 questions in 45 minutes (the published time limit), as many as you like, each a new draw from the whole bank.

The exam's agency publishes no topic weights, so it mixes topics in proportion to the question bank, favouring questions you missed before and never repeating one within a run. A retake is a new draw, so you will meet different questions. It is a practice mock test, not an official replica of the real exam.
