  1. Q1Alcohol and drugs

At what blood-alcohol concentration is it illegal to drive in Illinois?

    1. A.10% or more
    2. B.04% or more
    3. C.15% or more
    4. D.08% or more
    Show answer

    D. .08% or more It is illegal to drive if your BAC is .08% or more. You can still be convicted of DUI at a lower BAC if your driving ability is impaired. Alcohol affects your vision and slows your reaction time even below the level of illegal intoxication, so even a small amount increases the chance of a crash.

  2. Q2Intersections and turns

At a four-way stop, who goes first?

    1. AThe driver turning left
    2. BThe driver in the right lane
    3. CThe driver in the largest vehicle
    4. DThe first driver to stop
    Show answer

    D. The first driver to stop At an all-way stop, the first driver to stop is the first to go. If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the one on the left yields to the one on the right. Other drivers must wait their turn, and you may also see 3-WAY, 5-WAY or ALL-WAY panels under the stop sign at such intersections.

  3. Q3Licensing (GDL)

For most adult drivers, how long is an Illinois driver's license valid?

    1. ATwo years, ending on the driver's birthday
    2. BSix years
    3. CEight years
    4. DFour years, ending on the driver's birthday
    Show answer

    D. Four years, ending on the driver's birthday An Illinois driver's license is valid for four years and expires on the driver's birthday. The exceptions are drivers under 21, whose license runs out three months after their 21st birthday, drivers ages 81 to 86, who get two years, and drivers 87 and older, who renew every year.

Illinois SOS Permit FAQ

The Illinois Rules of the Road does not publish a question count or a pass mark. It says the written exam asks you to identify signs by shape, color or symbol, recognize signals and pavement markings, and answer multiple-choice and true-or-false questions on traffic laws, safety rules, crash prevention and vehicle equipment. You get three attempts within one year of paying the application fee.

Ages 15 to 17 need proof of enrollment in, or a start within 30 days of, an approved driver education course. At 17 years and 3 months you can apply without the course. The permit is valid for 24 months, and a teen must hold it at least nine consecutive months before getting a license.

The distances. You may not park within 15 feet of a hydrant, 20 feet of a fire station driveway or crosswalk, 30 feet of a stop sign, yield sign or signal, or 50 feet of a railroad crossing, and you must stop 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail when a train is coming. School zones are 20 mph on school days between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. when children are present.

No. They are original questions written from the Illinois Rules of the Road (2026 edition) and checked against its text, with the chapter and page cited on every answer. QuizCram is not affiliated with the Illinois Secretary of State.

Yes. Open the exam simulator and sit a timed mock test of 20 questions built from the free questions, once, with no signup. Unlocking the exam adds full-length runs of 35 questions in 35 minutes (a practice clock), as many as you like, each a new draw from the whole bank.

The exam's agency publishes no topic weights, so it mixes topics in proportion to the question bank, favouring questions you missed before and never repeating one within a run. A retake is a new draw, so you will meet different questions. It is a practice mock test, not an official replica of the real exam.
