  1. Q1Licensing (GDL)

How many of the 40 questions must you answer correctly to pass the Washington driving knowledge exam?

    1. A32
    2. B34
    3. C30
    4. D36
    Show answer

    A. 32 Washington DOL sets the pass mark at 32 correct answers out of 40, which is 80 percent. A passing score stays valid for two years, so you can still use it if you take the skills exam later within that window. If you fail, a waiting period may apply before you can retest, and the exam is offered in 12 languages.

  2. Q2Intersections and turns

Two vehicles reach a four-way stop at about the same moment. Which one yields?

    1. AThe faster vehicle
    2. BThe larger vehicle
    3. CThe one on the right, so the driver on the left goes first through the intersection
    4. DThe one on the left, so the driver on the right goes first
    Show answer

    D. The one on the left, so the driver on the right goes first At stop-sign intersections the first vehicle to arrive goes first, the second goes second, and so on. When two arrive at about the same time, yield to the one on your right. A driver turning left must also yield to vehicles going straight or turning right.

  3. Q3Speed and space

What is the speed limit in a Washington school zone?

    1. A15 mph
    2. B20 mph
    3. C25 mph
    4. D30 mph
    Show answer

    B. 20 mph The school zone limit is 20 mph because higher speeds raise the risk of fatal crashes. Signs may clarify the hours when the reduced limit applies. Children may use the playground or take part in after-school activities outside normal hours, so slow down and watch carefully any time you drive near a school.

Washington DOL Permit FAQ

40 questions, and you must answer 32 correctly (80%), according to the Washington Department of Licensing. A passing score is good for 2 years, the test is offered in 12 languages, and a waiting period may apply before a retest.

If you enroll in a driver training course you can apply for your permit as early as 15. If you do not take a course, you can take the knowledge exam after you turn 15 and a half, but you must wait until 18 to take the skills exam.

The distances. You may not park within 15 feet of a hydrant, 30 feet of a signal or stop sign, 5 feet of a driveway or 50 feet of a railroad crossing, and the school zone limit is 20 mph. Washington also has its own move over law for roadside response vehicles.

No. They are original questions written from the Washington Driver Guide (DOL, 2025) and checked against its text, with the guide section cited on every answer. QuizCram is not affiliated with the Washington State Department of Licensing.

Yes. Open the exam simulator and sit a timed mock test of 20 questions built from the free questions, once, with no signup. Unlocking the exam adds full-length runs of 40 questions in 40 minutes (a practice clock), as many as you like, each a new draw from the whole bank.

The exam's agency publishes no topic weights, so it mixes topics in proportion to the question bank, favouring questions you missed before and never repeating one within a run. A retake is a new draw, so you will meet different questions. It is a practice mock test, not an official replica of the real exam.
