Warning · MUTCD W1-5 · Checked October 8, 2026

What it looks like

A yellow diamond with a black arrow that snakes left and right.

What to do

  1. Reduce your speed before the first curve and keep it steady through the series.
  2. Stay in your lane on every curve, and do not drift toward the centre line.
  3. Avoid passing where you cannot see far ahead; a winding road is exactly that kind of place.

On the permit test

Tests show the snaking arrow and ask what it means; some ask how many curves it indicates.
