Which cell structure releases most of the usable energy a cell needs by breaking down glucose?

    The answer

Answer: C. Mitochondria carry out cellular respiration, the process that breaks down glucose in the presence of oxygen and captures the energy as ATP. That is why cells with high energy needs, such as muscle cells, contain many of them. Ribosomes build proteins, the cell wall gives plant cells structure, and the nucleus stores the genetic instructions.

In pea plants, tall (T) is dominant over short (t). If two heterozygous tall plants (Tt × Tt) are crossed, what percent of the offspring are expected to be short?

    The answer

Answer: B. A Punnett square for Tt × Tt gives four equally likely combinations: TT, Tt, Tt and tt. Only tt plants show the recessive short trait, which is 1 out of 4, or 25%. The other 75% carry at least one T and are tall. The 50% answer is the share of offspring that are heterozygous, not short.
