Study plan

How to pass the ASVAB

The order that works: learn the rules, drill until they’re automatic, then use the benchmark to check consistency.

  1. 1

Prioritize the four AFQT subtests — Arithmetic Reasoning, Math Knowledge, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension

  2. 2

AFQT is a percentile against a reference group, so speed and accuracy both matter

  3. 3

Work the technical subtests only if your target job line score requires them

  4. 4

Practice mental arithmetic: the adaptive form gives no going back once an item is answered

ASVAB FAQ

There is no universal passing score. The AFQT percentile determines enlistment eligibility and each branch sets its own minimum, so check the requirement for the branch and job you want.

From four subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Word Knowledge. Verbal Expression combines the last two, then AFQT = 2 × VE + AR + MK, reported as a percentile.
